The 39 degree heat of Lecce in Puglia is not a natural environment for any Scot (certainly not this one, left to his own devices) but family commitments trump personal considerations; obviously I prepared for every eventuality from sunhat to photographer's shirt to waterproof Gore-tex Converse (you never know!)
