Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
I believe that it's a valuable experience for all photographers to be photographed themselves from time to time, to remind themselves what it feels like on the other side of the camera. For a few minutes, your image is in their hands, with all the attendant apprehension & insecurity; an empathetic photographer can reassure, encourage and work with someone to bring out the idealised version of them that they have in their head. Everyone looks good in black & white but shaped & sculpted with 'Hollywood' lighting - soft 3/4 front light, feathered & focused spot backlighting and lots of large silver reflectors - and a black background, we can all begin to imagine ourselves as Cary Grant ...
